Wanna be the next Tina Fey? The Magnet's making it easier than ever in NYC
If you're a female and looking to try your hand at writing comedy, then look no further than The Magnet Theater's Writers Room for Women class headed up by instructor Beth Newell. Newell, who is the managing director of the theater's sketch teams and a member of the sketch team Dumbkowsky, will be teaching the all-female class starting November 4th, running until January 20th.
The course itself only costs $299 (which is a steal in comparison to other sketch classes in the city) and "will focus on collaborations between women in the writers room." This class is perfect for the chick who wants to combat the "women aren't funny" stigma that has had lady comedians especially up in arms earlier this year. Even in the wake of comedy giants like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Tig Notaro, any woman trying to make it as a comedian knows the difficulties of having her voice heard in a world that is notoriously male-dominated -- and that's on top of all the other struggles of aspiring comedians.
Female comics looking to build their confidence, receive constructive feedback, and embrace their unique comedic style shouldn't pass up this great opportunity.
