Critical 5 things to do in L.A.: heating up, August 10-12
This week it has been especially sweltering in Los Angeles. But you know what they say: if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. We advise you stay put, because L.A. is cooking up some great events. Crank up the heat with America's hottest bands and then cool down with a nice cold glass of wine.
Norah Jones at the Hollywood Bowl
Kicking off this weekend's steamy acts is none other than the soulful singer/songwriter Norah Jones. This Friday she will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl as part of her Little Broken Hearts album tour. This show promises to be as sultry as ever. If you choose to skip this one, you're sure to find yourself shaking your head and saying, "I don't know why I didn't come" (sorry, we had to).
Jack White at the Grammy Museum
Famed guitarist, Jack White will be at the Grammy Museum this Friday. However, don't expect him to be wailing on his axe, instead he'll be waxing philosophical about his craft. Bob Santelli, Grammy Museum Executive Director, will be discussing White's art, his rise to the top, and what he's working on now. You won't want to miss this no-holds-barred conversation with one of music's greatest.
Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Staples Center
If you thought it couldn't get any hotter than Norah Jones and Jack White, you were wrong. In fact, it's going to get red hot this weekend as the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform for two consecutive days at L.A.'s Staple Center. The Chili Peppers have been rocking for almost thirty years, and this Saturday and Sunday the iconic band is taking the stage here in Los Angeles as part of their I'm With You world tour
. The newly inducted members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are sure to put on a great show.
Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival
Whoever said there was such a thing as too many cooks in the kitchen has obviously never attended the Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival. This week, the preeminent culinary publication Food and Wine, is hosting their annual star-studded, three day long foodie event in L.A. Starting this Friday, Tinsel Town will play host to some of the greatest chefs and gastronomic minds in the country. Grab an apron and come out to sample special menus and chat with the likes of Wolfgang Puck and Giada de Laurentis.
Rose Bowl Flea Market
This Sunday is Pasadena's monthly flea market event at the Rose Bowl. An established local experience, this funky and unique bazaar is the only way L.A. knows how to do a flea market. Boasting over 2,500 vendors, this bargaining Mecca is filled with all sorts of different rarities. Get your hands on the goods early, before the afternoon crowd shuffles in. Gates open at 8:00am. The pièce de résistance? Free parking, which is already an exceptional find in L.A.
