Andy Warhol for Nars: Pop Art as makeup, a total no-brainer?
When is it safe to say someone's an immortal cultural icon? Probably when that someone's face is staring back at people across the country as they put on their makeup. We'll explain.
Nars recently announced its newest line of make up, and yeah, it involves the face of, you guessed it, Andy Warhol. The line will be released as two collections, the first at Sephora in October and the second in major department stores in November, and features bright colors inspired by the master of pop art himself, a self-portrait eyeshadow palette, lip glosses in soup can-esque packaging, and printed cosmetic bags. Some of the makeup is also designed to look like his paintings and all are cleverly named after Warhol's life, muses, and art.
Further proof of Mr. Warhol's never ending influence on pop culture today still needed? Campbell's Soup has introduced special edition cans of tomato soup made to look like Warhol's paintings that can be found at Target. Yum, and pretty. And pretty meta.
If you have a hankering for some soup and a clearly connected need for all things glossy and shiny, you might as well jump on the bandwagon and go the Andy Warhol way.
