Black Mesa

Album |

Cinematic journey through the post-rock desert.

In fairness, the second solo album by guitarist Jon Porras isn't fundamentally that different from what he does in the experimental duo Barn Owl: Black Mesa consists entirely of lengthy guitar instrumentals featuring varying levels of effects and processing. But this time out, there's a distinctly cinematic vibe to these dark, foreboding atmospheres. Imagine "Cowgirl in the Sand"-era Neil Young providing the soundtrack to Sergio,Leone's spaghetti westerns and you're most of the way there. Perfect for late-night desert drives.
