Beach House
Electro-Indie Duo By T. Cole RachelGauzy, beautifully atmospheric indie duo.
Despite the dreamy, almost somnambulistic nature of their music, Baltimore's Beach House have ascended the ranks of the indie ladder fairly quickly. The duo of guitarist Alex Scally and vocalist/keyboardist Victoria Legrand released an under-the-radar self-titled debut in 2006; this collection of gauzy low-key chamber pop songs formed the template for what was to come. With the release of the critically acclaimed Devotion in 2008 and the breakout Teen Dream in 2010, Beach House fully morphed from just another gloomy bedroom recording act into one of the hottest tickets in all of indie rock. While their style hasn't changed so much as refined itself (their songs are still heavy on atmosphere, buoyed aloft by Legrand's soaring vocals), they continue to push the sonic boundaries of what two people and a few vintage instruments can do.
