Teen Dream
Album | Beach House By T. Cole RachelBaltimore duo comes into its own.
Three albums deep into their career, Baltimore's most swoon-worthy duo have finally managed to strike gold. Beach House's first two albums were lovely (if somewhat obtuse) examinations of love, but each suffered from a kind of sameness and general lack of dynamics. On Teen Dream, the band not only ramps up the drama, but the songs actually soar off into a million different exciting directions. The trademark haze and fog of reverb still hangs over the record, but Victoria Legrand seems to have finally come to terms with the power of her own voice, finally letting loose and belting on tunes like "Walk in the Park" and "Better Times." Musically, the duo has figured out how to make the most out of a two person setup, creating a full, rich sound. Mostly, though, the band just has better songs this time around, with tracks like the anthemic "Zebra" and epic "10 Mile Stereo" standing head and shoulders over anything they have ever recorded. Teen Dream is the sound of a band finally coming into its own.
