Further
Album | The Chemical Brothers By T. Cole RachelDance music duo regain their groove.
After treading water with their two past albums, both of which were heavy with guest vocalists but a little short on new ideas, the Chemical Brothers bounce back—way back—with the release of Further. Eschewing outside guests and sidestepping the kind of dancefloor manipulations that they themselves helped create (tracks that build and build before exploding into a big beat), Further is the most twisty, synth-heavy record the duo has ever released. The band has not turned its back on the important business of making people dance (“Escape Velocity” is proof of that), but this time around the Brothers seem much more interested in creating a purer version of electro-psychedelia. Even with just 8 tracks and clocking in just under an hour, Further still manages to more than live up to its name.
