Fink
British DJ turned singer/songwriterBritish chill-out DJ turned Nick Drake-influenced singer/songwriter
Born Fin Greenall, Bristol-bred Fink started out as an ambient-house DJ, spinning in British clubs and making his recorded debut in 2001with downtempo/chill-out album Fresh Produce on Ninja Tune's Ntone imprint. Fink, whose father was a folk musician, did a drastic about-face after that, reinventing himself as a singer/songwriter. Starting with sophomore album Biscuits For Breakfast, he began making records full of spare, muted tunes based around his murmuring vocal style and cyclical, Nick Drake-like acoustic guitar patterns. Significantly, these albums still bear a touch of ambient and dub techniques in the production. Also a songwriter and producer for other artists, Fink has worked with everyone from John Legend (who lends piano to Fink's '09 album Sort of Revolution) to Amy Winehouse.
