Cape Dory

Album | Tennis (band)
By T. Cole Rachel

Jingly-jangly pop with cute girly harmonies.

The easy, breezy pop music that Tennis produce isn't nearly as interesting as their backstory (a couple from Denver, Colorado who sold all of their worldy possessions and lived on a sailboat for seven months), but for those who love jingly-jangly pop music with cute girl group harmonies, you can't do much better than Cape Dory. "Long Boat Pass" and "Marathon" have the rockabilly guitar twang and snap-along beats that could pass for long-lost pop songs from the '50s, while "South Carolina" could pass for an old Heavenly track with slightly less tinny production. It might be nice if the cutesy duo behind these songs, Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, could shake off a little of the twee every once and a while and perhaps rock a little harder, but clocking in at just under 30 minutes, this record delivers just the right amount of sweetness.
