10 Critical Breakout Artists Of SXSW 2010
By Laura LeeboveIt's a daunting task, trying to choose which of the thousand-plus artists to check out during SXSW. But for my first trip to Austin, I went in with an open mind and a short list of acts I was itching to see live that I hadn't already. (Although having already seen The Antlers and two Sharons -- Jones and Van Etten -- didn't stop me from going to their Austin shows!) Throughout the week, I found myself in front of hushed singer-songwriters (Peasant, Hurray for the Riff Raff), danceable indie poppers (Standard Fare, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), lively and spastic California rockers (Local Natives, Man/Miracle), and more. Here are 10 young SXSW breakouts worth watching in 2010.
