Kitty Florey
Kitty Burns Florey's first novel came out in 1979, and since then she has published nine more works of fiction (most recently, Solos and Souvenir of Cold Springs) and two nonfiction books, the bestselling Sister Bernadette's Barking Dog: The Quirky History and Lost Art of Diagramming Sentences (2006) and Script and Scribble: The Rise and Fall of Handwriting (2009). Kitty is a recipient of a literature grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and her work has appeared in Best American Essays (2006), One Hundred Great Essays (2008), Harper's, Slate, and the New York Times. For many years, Kitty has also been a copy editor, and is well known for meticulous editing that verges on insane and fanatical.
